Recently, our company has been searching for a robust business intelligence reporting platform. We have searched both traditional BI vendors and also open source business intelligence vendors, we chose the latter. The three main open source vendors we have narrowed it down to are Actuate, Jaspersoft and Pentaho. All three companies have cost effective platforms but the information about each reporting tool varies for each vendor. One company that stood out in terms of useful information was Actuate. The content on their website was very handy and they also directed us to their community of open source BIRT developers. I was excited to try out their offerings and downloaded a trial version of their software. I am currently enjoying the various reporting tool features and how easy it is to use. Our company will not make a decision until we also get a chance to evaluate the other competitor’s software. We are also taking a look at other lightweight solutions such as SaaS BI. If you’re company is currently searching for a business intelligence platform, give Actuate BIRT a try.
